Starter + Fuel Pump Problem

Best Answer Mixagon , 07 August 2025 - 03:58 PM

All sorted now and a very easy fix for once.
There is a multi plug next to the oxygen sensor heater relay which had broken off from its fixing and I had taken it apart to figure a way to re fix it to the bulk head (cable tie ) and although it looked ok I hadn't quite pushed the plug all the way together again, soon as I did fuel pump fired up and starter worked again.
Thanks Viz139 for suggestion.

Hi, bit of a puzzle here for you hope you can help. Cooper spi.
Been working on the engine bay wiring this week and fitted a new fuse box and done some tidying up and all was working ok
.  Today one headlight was not working so as my next job was check the wires behind the grill I started to inspect them and sure enough lots of corrosion in the connectors so I cleaned a few and the headlight worked again, I'm changing all the connectors at the weekend anyway so all will be good soon.

Now when I came to start the car no petrol pump sound from the boot and no starter, every thing else on the car works except those two things. I've only touched the headlight and fan wires and no fuses have blown in the engine bay so what could have caused the no starter & pump.

Oh I was told by PO the immobiliser had been disconnected so shouldn't be that and its always been ok until today without it. I see there are three brown thick wires coming from the starter in a sheath into the loom but ran out of time to inspect further, any thoughts or were to look next ? is there a reset trip anywhere ?

Thanks for any help.

The symptoms you describe would indicate immobilizer on, however that is assuming there is power to the ecu and/or relay pack. Double check the solenoid connections as that is where you may have disturbed something and confirm power to both ecu and relay pack.
