Physical Location Of Automatic Inhibitor Switch Please?

Best Answer NLinPEN , 10 August 2025 - 08:58 AM

SOLVED: I found this switch. It is located at the front of the gearbox. More or less below/behind the front bumper and license plate.

The switch turned out to be working as it is supposed to do. When unplugging the connector the car would not start. The switch is closed when the car is in neutral, and open in any other position. So the inhibitor function of the engine ECU (MEMS) works as intended. The diagnostics software that I'm using is apparently not indicating the correct parameter.

I was diagnosing the engine ECU on my Japanese SPi car with automatic gearbox. I am trying to figure out why the engine stalls when I move the lever from Neutral to either Forward or Reverse drive. The ECU is supposed to adapt the throttle position when the gearbox engages to the engine's crankshaft.

One thing I noticed is that the parameter called Neutral Switch (hex: 80x0C) reads false (zero), even though the gear lever is in Neutral. This is supposed to read true (high signal level). This signal is controlled by a switch. In the attached schematic diagram snippet is this switch called the Automatic Inhibitor Switch.

My question is: where is this switch located in the car? I was looking under the car at the gear lever, but only find the reverse light switch there.
