Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice.
I have just installed a Maniflow lcb manifold with a link pipe to retain my catalytic converter, as I had a crack in the standard manifold.
I also installed a Minispares inlet manifold as well.
I also have a twin box RC40 cat back exhaust from Minispares as well.
Just wondering if I need to have my Mini setup on a rolling road?

Would it be worth getting a k&n air filter for the standard airbox and change the carb needle as well to go with these upgrades?
Mini is a 1993 Rio 1275, with hif38 carb and factory cat.
Many thanks.

It won’t hurt assuming you can find a rolling road operator/tuner that knows anything about carbs. Confirm that before booking anything.

Ok then, I think I will have a phone around and see if anyone near me can do it. Thanks.

See how it drives & keep an eye on the spark plug colour. There'd be little point in splashing out on a rolling road if you're likely to make more modifications.

Ok then will do. Not looking at getting it done just yet, but in the near future.
It seems to drive pretty well, but only had one drive in it since doing it so far.

A useful couple of questions to ask are "How many different SU needles have you got there?" and "How many of them are HIF38's?" The total number of needles in stock tells you how familiar they are with SUs.

But you'll probably find the answer to the second one is disappointing, even if the RR does lots of SU carb'd cars. The RR I went to had a huge pile of HIF44 needles, and a handful of HIF38 needles. I guess almost all their customers fit HIF44, expecting bigger to be better.

My rolling road chap tends to modify needles rather than keeping a massive stock of expensive parts that he'll never use. I certainly wouldn't judge his knowledge of SU's based on the stock of needles.

Thanks for all the replies, most appreciated.
There is a Mini specialist near ish to me, so think I will give them a phone and see what they say.
I think I would prefer to use a Mini specialist, or at least a RR that has experience of classic Minis.
Must admit, I have no idea about the best needle to get for my car, so really would need advice from the person doing the RR.

Brunswick Motorsport aw Witchford, near Ely, is not too far from you and Wayne and his father, who used to work for Pete Baldwin, will sort it all out and optimise the settings.
