Hi,

Innocenti Mini Cooper 1300 1973.

While not applying excessive pressure in any way, the metal stalk controling the headlights on the left of the steering wheel suddenly became loose. The plastic part connecting it to the switch was broken in 2. I can still operate the switch, in a much less convenient way though. The indicator stalk is still intact.

Is the whole part (2 stalks with the switches and the attachment to the column) still available as spare part somewhere ? I could not find any.

Is there a proven way to glue it back (super-glue,...) ? I do not want to try some glue that would melt the plastic and prevent me from still using the switch as is.

Thanks in advance,
Olivier

Superglue is much over-rated. Perhaps it's the name that makes everyone think it's so super? Works fine on leather/card/balsa/etc (and skin) but generally doesn't stick hard and impervious things very well or quickly, and makes a mess as the fumes condense elsewhere on the part.

Got a picture of the break? And would you know what kind of plastic it is - some plastics glue well, some need a particular solvent, and others don't glue at all.

If the part is removeable, then a 3D-printed replacement is a possibility.
