New build engine. 1.3 roller rockers

Would you notice a difference in tappet noise at certain revs? For example, if I’m driving in 4th at 60mph I can hear them tapping away but when I come to a junction or ticking over they are really quiet. Another example, if I sit the car and hold it at certain revs, I can hear the tapping louder than at other revs. If that makes sense. I can also hear the odd intermittent rattle along with the tapping when I hold it at a constant rev (around 3k) any ideas appreciated.

You need to check if the rockers are touching the inside of the rocker cover.

Has the noise been present since first start, or did it begin after any time?

I redid my head earlier this year, and mine was making a similar noise after a while. I thought it was tappet noise, but it turned out that the head gasket had blown between cyl 2-3. No leak, no mix of oil and coolant, just a heck of a racket.

Swiftune sw8 cam. Med roller rockers 1.3 ratio. Standard tin type rocker cover but I try and opoull the rocker forward as much as possible when tightening to stop it hitting the rockers.

The tin covers are usually OK. In my experience the rockers normally foul the back inner face of the rocker covers

What is a standard cover to you?

never had issues with standard steel (original) covers with 1:1.5 rockers.

take the cover off and repeat your stationary revving.

I`m guessing you followed the camshaft break in procedure for a good 20 minutes on initial start up

I always hate that bit as it seems wrong
