Moke, what are your thoughts on a higher flow thermostat, can pick up one at Supercheap with allegedly 30% more flow, couldn't hurt to try one i guess.
I can't hurt, but if all else is working as it should, you shouldn't need that additional flow - actually just thinking a little more on that, it may be detrimental, is the coolant flow through the system is too 'fast' as it won't give it enough time to pick up heat out of the engine and then dump that heat. It's not somewhere I've needed to go previously.
<EDIT: Doh ! It won't make any difference to the flow. The opening in the Thermstat is about the same as the ID of the Thermostat Hosing Outlet, the Radiator inlet and outlet and the Water Pump. >
I have only standard cooling components in my Moke. A couple of years ago on a trip in February out west, it got a wee bit warm;-
However, the cooling system too it in it's stride, despite having been cruising at 100 kph, it only got to 900

A higher flow thermostat, presuming the original is restricting the flow, would allow more water to pass through the rad of a given time. So reducing the time for any cooling to happen. But not knowing how they are improving the flow? Higher lift in the stat? Is there room for that? Or just a bigger diameter opening.
but again back in the day. All that was needed was a clean waterway an S rad. And the internal heater for those hot moments.

running a pipe from heater take off to bottom hose you are bypassing the radiator this coolant is meant to go through heater matrix then return to bottom pipe cooler so aid engine cooling the set up you have is doing the opposite. would suggest removing this pipe and fit decent high capacity radiator, 74 degeree thermostat, auxilliary electric fan and also make sure stndard fan is fitted the correct way round

Cooling systems transfer heat from the engine to the atmosphere. The higher the temperature differential between those the greater the cooling potential. It might seem counterintuitive but the higher the water temperature flowing out of the radiator the more heat the radiator can dump from the engine.
The ideal system will run at a constant temperature, with spare cooling capacity available by opening the thermostat more to increase the flow.
