So after a oil pump change I took the old girl for a spin only to find the whole engine bay covered in oil, around 1 litres worth that had come from the timing chain crank case breather onto the fan that then distributed it to every corner of the engine bay😬

Its a newly rebored engine...new pistons and all that jazz that was running fine untill the oil pump had a problem, so It got changed.

I've done a leak-down test and every thing looks ok

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Would need to know a bit more about what's happened since the car was last running fine, really. Including how did the pump fail, and how far was the engine stripped to replace it?

Oil usually spews because of excess crankcase pressure. If the oil pump failed, did bits break off and end up scoring the bores allowing excessive blowby? Or if the head came off for the fix, then maybe the replacement gasket has failed and pressurised oilways that way?

Several things were replaced when I replaced oil pump, New rockers and rocker shaft New cam, and head skim. Victor R gasket

This may sound strange but the engine has never run better apparently from the oil thing. AFR showing around 14.3
Have done a leak-down test, no pots higher than 25% Loss. Compression test shows all at around 160psi.

Are you sure it is not leaking from the oil gallery drilling in the cylinder head at the corner near the fan.Steve..

Hi Spider,thanks for your input.
Definatly comming from breather. Started engine brought rpm up to 3.2 and watched it come through breather

Are there any other breather ports on the engine?

Is there oil up on the rockers?

Were the cam bearings replaced?

Plenty of scope for oil system shenanigans there, but don't see why it'd come out the breather - there's a bigger drain hole from the timing cover in to the crank case.

Misaligned rocker post oil ways, spun cam bearing...
