What's going on with this corner of the 1/2 moon seal?
It wasn't shortened to install it was it?

As above the main cap doesn’t look right, it should have a recess like this

I see what your saying but if it was on back to front wouldent the 2 outer threaded holes be on the inside?

I don’t think it’d fit with the gearbox casing if it was on backwards, but it does appear to only have a very small relief at the bottom to direct oil to the drain holes. It might just be a trick of the lighting or angle of your photo, but it doesn’t look like others I’ve seen

The caps will only go on one way round.

You can see on this block for example the drain chamfer extends down to the bottom of the drain holes, whereas yours appears to stop about halfway into the drain holes. It’s a tricky spot that is hard to find good photos of

But not the same as the 1275 A+ cap I have on my spare block.  That looks like the one in posts 66 and 70.  Fair enough the cap in question  isn't on backwards, perhaps it's just a case of too much sealant blocking the holes.

The one with gasket material on it is an eary A+ block

Indeed, I see the oilway around the lower bearing shell.  I do have one of those but it's in a car so a bit difficult to check on....  Both my spare blocks are later A+ with the plain lower bearing  - perhaps the cast dish was extended down into the cap with the change in bearing?

The 'recess or lack there of isn't the issue.
