Has anyone fitted one those repo dashes available from several retailers for around £225?

mine has the usual issues with cracked lacquer and I’m looking to replace in in the new year

i have a lovely hand crafted solid oak dash but it’s not got the correct MPI holes which is a shame but I don’t fancy being a wood butcher and ruining it!

thanks

Not necessarily the same one, but I bought a repro MPi dash and it had several issues:

It was an extremely tight fit. Creaked rather than rattled.

The air vent holes weren't slotted. The seller suggested grinding the locator lumps off. I opted for very carefully routing the dash.

The alignment of the speedo/revcounter holes were misaligned. You couldn't see the main beam warning light unless you ducked down.

Best bet is to get your original reveneered. That's what I got Chapman and Cliff to do and was very pleased with the result.

Thanks for the info. Food for thought as I don’t fancy butchering my instruments.

Ohhh, I'd like to get this done too as I have the new Minispares dash, but I find it too dark.

May I ask how much it cost you to get Chapman to re-veneer yours...?

Cheers

IIRC £300 and some, it was several years ago.
Give them a ring and ask. They’re very friendly and helpful, as well as great at what they do. They showed me a number of different veneers. I thought about bird’s eye maple but felt it might be a bit over the top. Mine had a black interior, so the dark walnut was out. The burr elm won and I’m really pleased with it.
