My first rally was as a navigator in a new 850 in July 1961. It was an inter-college motor clubs event of 240 miles all night and we won. My driver was my best friend and fellow apprentice Bill Rogers. We went on to win the London Counties Rally Championship in 1963 in his Mini (9NKP), but we borrowed a works-prepared Mini, the famous 16BOJ for one event when 9NKP went a bit sick the day before the event.
I rallied in my own 1964 998 Cooper, both as driver and as navigator and navigated several Cooper S's until the late 1960's.
When historic rallying started I prepared a 1330 'S' (UXD725G), then restored and prepped a better 1275 'S' which I still have (CNX132B) It has done 36 events and won 6 of them outright. Now that I am getting a bit too old, my son is going to use it instead of his Escort RS2000 on selected events in the Historic Championship.
