I had a jogger, without hesitation, bound out into a crosswalk in front of me the other morning, and had to brake hard in order to not kill that idiot.

At the same time, the engine conked out. It fired right back up and I was on my way. Any ideas why that would happen?

Was the clutch depressed (not as in suicidal, like the jogger)?

Is it a carburetted Mini? If so, possibly, fuel may have slopped and rich cut the engine.

Unless it happens again, the conk out not the jogger, I wouldn't worry.

thanks. Thats sort of what it felt like. It’s got a HS4. just wasn’t sure if it was a symptom of something I needed to check. Thanks

Another possible issue could be lack of oil in the dashpot in the carb. (The little black knurled knob thing on top of the carb). SU (who make the carb) recommend their own dashpot oil, but my cars have always been totally happy using 3 in 1 oil. Others use ATF, and some people use engine oil (which may be a bit too thick for the job). Check to see if there's enough oil in there.

I had a 1275GT in the 90s which used to cut out when I dipped the clutch. The lack of dashpot oil was the cause.

I'd assume you just stalled it in the panic.

checked the dash pot recently, in good order with 3 in 1.

I'd assume you just stalled it in the panic.

that’s a possibility that I didn’t consider. It just died, rather that the whole “hopping and lurching” type stalling that happens when one’s feet get out of rhythm.

probably just a moment of panic thing, main thing is your brakes worked!  well done not hitting them

I suppose you could find a nice empty road and do a few 'emergency stops' to see if it happens again

hopping and lurching (kangarooing) is more when you're trying to pull away really (if you get it wrong)
