Has anyone had an issue with mounting 165/70 10 Blockley tires on 6" rims"  I ask because their website states max rim width of 5.5" for that tire.

EDIT 3/24:  I've had 008s and 032s mounted on 6" Revo rims over the years without a problem, but if the Blockleys require 5" wheels, I have a set of 5" Revos just aching to be used.  Thanks to all for the input.

No experience of tyre size or rim. But people under and over tyre rims all the time. There is a trend for stretching skinny tyres on to wider rims in UK. I cant see 0.5" rim width will make any difference/safety issue

Hi,

I would be very weiry of putting non matched tyre sizes to rims.

If you had an accident and the Insurance Company spotted this then I wouldn't be surprised if they said your insurance was invalid.

Tyres and wheels are designed as much as possible as a combined safety factor.

The ideal wheel rim for a 165/70 x 10 tyre is 4.5" or 5".

You gain nothing by going to 6" and it is not a recommended size by the tyre manufacturers.

A 10" x 6" wheel is normally regarded as being for a racing tyre.

Is it a recommendation on the website or is there any kind of technical law or approval (or lack there of) behind?

I don't have any experience with the Blockley, because here in Germany its really difficult to get.

But both Yokos (A032r & A008), Falken and even the crappy Nankang in 165 fits fine on 6" rims.

And as far as I know in Germany there is a technical law, that states the width of the tire must always be wider that of the rims.

As 165 wide tires are (16,5 cm / 2,54 cm per inch) 6,496 inches wide, they are legal on 6 inch rims but just not on 6,5 inch...

There's 117 pages of recommendations from The European Tyre and Rim Tecnical Organisation.

On page 36 it states-

"Tyre/rim combinations
For approved tyre/rim combinations, consult the current E.T.R.T.O. Standards Manual. For
other tyre/rim combinations, for existing vehicles, consult the E.T.R.T.O. Engineering Design
Information and the tyre and rim manufacturers concerned.
Consult rim and wheel manufacturers for confirmation of the strength of the rim/wheel for the
intended service."

After Page 36 I gave up.

This query could go on and on but hopefully if you really want an answer it's in the ETRTO info somewhere.

Cheers
