YKG2S2 aussie Mk1 1275 cooper S. Having problems starting when cold and not started for a while. Having to pump throttle for a long time to get started. Once warm no problems. Any ideas? Probably something v. simple that I'm not aware of.

What carb does it have?
What distributor/coil/plugs?
What’s the battery voltage when cranking it cold?

Unless you have a weber or equivalent carb, pumping the throttle will not help at all.  The choke system is necessary for rich mixture at starting.

Thanks Lplus and timmy850. I knew it would be easy and should have noticed the fault. Choke knob was jamming and not

fully extending. New one on order.

Might be worth checking your engine earth strap. If it's not too good the choke & accelerator cables can get used as supplements
