Hi for the second time, I was here about 15 years ago when I bought a mini, half restored it and then sold it to an old neighbour as it was dragging on (and I was being yelled at for hogging the garage)

Fast forward 15 years and last week our letting gent called us and said they had complaints from our neighbours about the cars on OUR driveway! The cheek. So I started looking for a 40yo+ car that didn't need tax or an MOT and I could park on the road for very little cost and really wind up the neighbours.

Bought it at auction without seeing it, because why not? And it seems okay. Bit of "minor" (hahaha, we all know how bad minor rust it when we start peeling it back) under one of the windows and both scuttle corners have seen better days - as it is I can weld (well, I own a welder anyway!) and use a rattle can so I plan to tidy that up in the next few months. But the floor looks good, the boot looks like it needs drying out and a quick cover of paint too. Sills look fairly decent as well when I had a poke around while it was on the truck being delivered but I've not had it up in the air yet to look properly.

Other things that need attention, the brake and clutch pedals don't return properly when pressed and you have to hook them back up (guessing strings and some lubricant), the heater, hazards and head lights don't work (but indicators do) so I'm hoping the panel has just been unplugged and I don't have any windscreen wipers (physically I do, they just don't work) - I have a spare wipe/indicator stalk here - plugged it in and still not working so need to diagnose that.

Otherwise I'm quite happy with it. Did take it for a quick spin and it sounds a little rough but I'll give it a service before I use it in anger and see if that help - what doesn't help is the airbox screws are missing so it slipped down so wasn't getting as much air as it should be getting - hopefully new screws and it might sound better.

I'll no doubt be back in the next few days asking stupid questions, because despite owning 10 cars/vans stupid crap always seems to leave me utterly confused.

Should probably add, this is a long term, "easy" project, I already have a mk1 Golf GTI that needs some work and I've just started a resto on a '72 VW T2 (and that's a monster of a job as we bought a pile of rust where EVERYTHING needs replacing)

That looks too good to just be an improvised traffic cone.

... as it's both pedals I'd suspect the pin they both pivot on. If you can brave the contortioning to remove the clevis  pins that would  confirm. It's a bit less hard to tap the pin out instead though & you may not need to knock it all the way to introduce some lube to the bushes. But knock it too far & you'll likely have release the clevis pins anyway to get it back together.

That’s can be my weekend yoga then! Twisting myself into shapes I shouldn’t make and trying to get it sorted.

And to my non-expert eye it all looks very original. I’d be surprised if much has changed from spec at all.
