Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on an upcoming documentary about Formula 1 legend James Hunt, and we’re trying to track down any replica Minis (classic Mini Coopers) associated with or styled after him.

If anyone has any leads, knows of collectors, or can point us toward replica builds, clubs, or specialists who might have something suitable, we’d really appreciate it. We’re open to different conditions and levels of authenticity, as long as the look fits the era.

Feel free to reply here or send me a direct message.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Tim Harber at 'MiniMail' in link below, may have some knowledge/information on the replica James Hunt Mini (in photo above) that was built for and featured in the 2013 'Rush' film, as I think he did some work on the Mini for the film company.

MiniMail contact details:-

https://www.minimail...ontact-details/

James Hunt also had a Minivan in his younger days and was first introduced to the world of motor racing by the 1960/70's Surrey based Mini racing driver Simon Ridge, which inspired local boy James Hunt to also build and race a Mini. Simon Ridge has some great stories about the young James Hunt from those early days!

Rush - Mk1 Forum (2013) more photos and info:-

Small photo of James Hunt's race Mini here (scroll down):-

The blue/white Mini used in Rush was auctioned on Ebay in 2014, in the film it had a 1966 'D' reg number.

Strangely the Registration KLE 767D used in the film is actually for a 1966 White Triumph Vitesse!

Also worth posting the same request for James Hunt Mini info on the 'Mk1 Forum':-

and asking Pete Flanagan who runs 'The Sporting Minis' Facebook page:-

For reference the 'Rush Film Mini' appeared on Ebay recently.

Classic Mini Rush Film Car
"This is the actual mini from the film Rush telling the story of James Hunt and Nikki Lauda rivalry, this is the car Chris Hemsworth drives playing the part of James Hunt, so if you want a bit of cinema history and you are a mini fan this is a must.
I bought this car in February 2015, it was not in a great way, I have sympathetically restored the car trying to keep as much of the original paint and features from the film car.
The engine and gearbox have been rebuilt, done by the famous Mini specialist Peter Vickers
It has had new a complete Newton interior, copies of the original Mini Cooper S interior
All new suspension bushes, adjustable suspension, brake pads, discs
It has had a new driver’s floor pan, new rear subframe, refurbished trailing arms, stainless steel exhaust manifold and some DSN classic alloy bits.
It does have new rose petal racing wheels, I have the originals with centre caps etc, all with new tyres
A period radio with aux jack point connection so you can connect a phone/music source
It comes with the number plates from the film, although the film VIN is actually a 1966 White Triumph Vitesse
As an historic vehicle it is tax and MOT exempt
Please note – this is not an original Cooper S
Collection only."
