Hi everyone, so I have an issue with my early SPI , so it has the 2 plug ecu with the switch on the accelerator.
I’ve looked through all the related topics but not found anything similar.
So the car starts ok and runs, but really rough and won’t rev above 2500/3000rpm. Done all vacuum pipes, fitted a good spare inlet manifold/throttle body with stepper motor and sensors. Tried to remove lamda sensor to check but could get it to move it looked relatively new so I thought I’d leave it (mistake??) car still runs same.
I did read about the switch on the accelerator pedal and i have found that if I disconnect this the car runs fine and drives fine.although the tick over is too high around 2000/2500 rpm . Any ideas on why ? What does the switch do ? I did read on here someone has their switch disconnected and runs fine. It’s booked in for mot next week and wondering if it may be running rich hence high tick over , and may fail emissions, any help and advice would be gratefully received

Is your temperature gauge getting to half way? If its a little low it could be the PTC in the bottom of the inlet manifold. If the engine doesn't get to temperature it will run in closed loop mode and run rich,

Hi there thanks for that, to be honest I don’t think the temperature gauge works? I’ll have to check the gauge but it could also be the sensor and causing the problem cheers

Can you connect a diagnostics tool to the car's computer and see the charts?

Hi there yes I need to get one, I’ve been looking at a few alternatives you can buy the plug and get the software but I’m not really sure what to buy?

I have been using this (free) software tool on a Windows laptop:  https://memsfcr.co.uk/

As I have an electronics background I was able to make the adapter hardware myself, using these instructions: https://memsfcr.co.uk/ecu-cable/

There are some shops that offer these adapter cables for sale. You could start by following these suggested links for further details:  https://memsfcr.co.uk/credits/  Or search online for "Rover MEMS adapter".
