The agreed value relates to a reasonable price for replacing the car in the open market, rather than the cost of rebuilding it. Will it be in a locked garage in M29? If not the premium doesn't surprise me against an agreed value of almost £30K. Worth making a few calls to other insurers if you have time.

The car is garaged at mine in Nottingham and will never be stored at M29 so I believe the cover should be based on my home address, but I suspect the insurance provider doesn't see it that way.

Shop around, there are lots of classic car insurers and lots of ads for them in most classic car magazines. There is no reward for loyalty in car insurance and prices usually go up if you stay with the same company for a couple of years or more, as they hope for 'Customer Inertia' to kick in, which is a term used in sales & marketing for customers who forget, or can't be bothered to shop around for a better deal, or where an auto-renewal takes place....which is also why Insurers like your permission to retain your payment card details for an auto-renewal to happen the following year...

I am about to renew my insurance, I am currently with Adrian Flux who will match any insurance quote providing the cover/excesses are the same, My renewal cost is £141, but I have gone on confused .com and have quotes that range from £97 to £365, I will speak to Adrian Flux tomorrow to see what they can do.

Look at it the other way around -

the Mini is an easily cloned / stripped car

easily stolen , easily transported while being stolen ,

not saying the mini in question isn't secured - but the insurer only has the customers word .

The values are high for a small item , that is regularly used , and easily sold on even on original ID ,

Log books are for sale on Ebay along with vin plates , stamped on panel locations are usually replaced due to rust anyway .

A tracker is usually easily found on a mini by someone who knows them ,

also a lot of info is available for the mini & they are easily converted from rhd to lhd

I believe 4 mini's can be fitted into a shipping container (maybe more)

You can see why insurers want more money to insure a higher value mini

the best bet is to shop around ,

( trying not to be negative , but it helps to see both sides of the argument )

This has been a great thread!  Thanks for all you comments and interaction.

This got me thinking. How on earth does anyone get insurance on some of the more powerful, specialist Mini creations?

The latest one on UK Minis, a 195bhp, 150mph, £40k build cost Suzuki GSX-R 1000 engined pocket rocket, is an interesting car, but based on my recent experience, I couldn't image what the premiums would be for a car like this.

But it gets better.  2-weeks ago a winner had his 350bhp Diminutive Z Cars Mini delivered which supposedly cost £75k to build and has a top speed of 160mph.

I'm so old people don't ask my age, they ask for carbon dating, so with my full, clean driving licence and accident free driving record, I assume I'd be a low risk; but a 25yo trying to insure a 350bhp monster??!!

Adrian Flux have now re-quoted and have reduced the premium to £91, so it was definitely worth contacting them and saving £50  :D

I've just left Adrian Flux.  Quote come in for £194, up £45 on year before.  Gave these a call, after they had a stall at Minis by the Sea last year.  https://www.robinsrow.co.uk/

Nice, human touch, which is what I like.  Cheaper than AF.  I have an issue with companies put one price out and then will come down when you find a better quote or call them.  They should offer their best price without having to go through the pantomime.
