Hello

I recently bought a 1972 Austin mini Clubman. It is in a driving condition but needs alot of work.

Im in process of finding what parts i need, and i was helped by a post from 2012 on this Forum to understand what brake master cylinder was mounted on my car.

So i decided to join and am probably going to have alot of questions.

I allredy have some as i just today noticed that one of my engine steadys have been cut. and i dont know where the other side was supposed to be mounted so i dont know what parts to buy.

Here is a pic of my mini. It was originaly orange, but someone decided to brushpait it blue. Might go back to orange at some point.

But for now this is my daily driver.

I am even unsure where this is supposed to attatch, as im new to minis. I cant see eny brackets or enything cut on the engine.

Also in the background you can see my brake master cylinder. Thanks to this forum i found out its known as GMC159, but it says Lockheed 3211-4040C70, and found a rebuild kit. But im wondering, as i found a pic of another clubman online from 1973 that had ths same part. Was it stock on the car or was this a common replacement part?

Thanks

A 1973 Mini would have had a single circuit master cylinder, similar to your clutch master cylinder - unless it's some export model I'm not familiar with. Dual circuit brakes were fitted from 1976 onwards & had the larger 6 sided pedals.

The engine steady isn't standard. There are aftermarket versions that connect to the thermostat housing studs & studs for your master cylinders (which would be empty on a right-hand drive car.

My car was sold new in Norway in 72, and alot of things here have been "fixed" so i dont know what is standard or not.

Ah i see what you mean about the radiator support. Here are 2 more pics if you can see enything wrong with this let me know.

Also, can i tag people so they get a notification about my post, without quoting?

I don't think you can tag, but I think you can edit quotes to only include the relevant bit.

I've got an old parts catalogue which does  list 37H8059 & 37H8058 for Norway.

Not certain but I expect they became GMC159 & GMC160 under Unipart

Thanks, all of this ads up quick. Good that there are rebuild kits avalible.

Buying new parts can bankrupt someone.

Also there are so many variants of same part that i get confused about what i accualy need.

And it does not help that i started with looking for parts i accualy need to change, and ended up looking at upgraded versions, things that i want or wuld be nice to have.
