Just as an update, took the valve off, managed to drill out all the internals, put a nut and washer in the spigot hole to seal it and now it just pours out of the crimped joint! Ordered a 90 degree from Smiffys Mini's.

I'm a little late to the party with this but there is another very good solution. I stole the idea from an MG forum that I'm on. Replace that pesky valve with this one..
Four Seasons 47648. I tried posting a link but couldn't get it to work.
To do it you need to make a block to hold the valve and the lever that opens and closes the valve has to swapped around. But it is not difficult to do.
