My recently rebuilt engine (now 1293cc) has a very nice inlet manifold with nice smooth internal branches.

At some point someone has removed/pulled out/cut off the two hot-water pipes that would have been in there.

My question is whether a "through tube" has been removed or whether just tube "stubs" have been removed.  I have never seen one in its natural state before.

Can I put a through tube back in (if that's what it had) or just an in & Out tube stub cemented in with epoxy/JB-weld if that would do it?

TIA.

Dan.

I think most had a through pipe, personally I would drill and tap 3/8 NPT and fit the appropriate size barb for your hose sizes.

From the ones I've seen - it depends. Some are cast with a complete tube, some are cast with just stubs on each side. It's likely very difficult to get a tube back through but heating the manifold and cooling the tube might get you somewhere. Something I've been considering is whether the casting can be tapped to take either an AN fitting (as that's what I use for most hoses) or worst case a BSP or NPT thread for a barbed fitting. Answers on a postcard.

The MG Metro ones were stubs. I can't imagine being able to push a full length tube all the way through.

You could probably glue them in: plenty of surface area, controlled temperature range & you even have a decent idea of the load as rad cap pressure X pipe cross sectional area....about 3lbs

I'm no mechanical engineer but I fail to see the reason for it.  I've run with the hoses installed and without, no appreciable difference.

I would run as is - to see if you need it  ( similar to croc 7)
