Hi all,
on my MPI block the oil galeries were blocked off by some kind of rivet. I can't find them, and obviously don't have the tool to insert them.
What are my options ?
Thanks
Pete.

I think drilling & tapping, BSP or NPT, is most fashionable.

Prior to the rivet, they were fitted with solid brass plugs, the smaller ones were about 1/4" long and the bigger 1/2" dia ones were about 3/8" long. I think these are still available through some of the suppliers.
I tap the block and fit cup point type grub screws, fitted with Loctite 243 to seal them. For the smaller holes, they are already drilled the right for 5/16" UNF and the Main Oil Gallery are already the right size for M14. The Main Gallery I start off Tapping these in the drill press (turning by hand) to get them square and tape them such that the plugs seat up against the shoulder that's already machined in there.
I'm unfamiliar with the MPi Blocks, but on those made earlier, that plug that is fitted with a rivet you need to be careful how deep any plug there is fitted. This is a cross drilling for a back vent for the Oil Pressure Relief Valve. If the plug is fitted too deep it can block that vent and prevent the Valve from operating. If that happens, it usually results in blowing up the Oil Filter.

OK, so over on MEDs web site they say this:
Apparently the MPI block uses different sizes or types. I did remove 4 x rivet type plugs.

A set of core plugs and brass oil gallery plugs to refresh your block as part of a full rebuild.
We keep four different options, as below;
All 1275 kits include four brass oil gallery plugs, 848-1098 have just two.
Please note, the oil gallery plugs will not suit MPi Mini blocks.
