I've done a search but I cannot find how to delete my profile and leave the forum.

Any advice welcome.

The forum couldn't exist if contributors totally deleted themselves from the structure. If you've made posts there has to be a minimum to relate them to others' posts.

Most forums I participate in include a no politics rule, but reading through the Mini Forum rules, politics and expressing political opinion is allowed.

If members want to express their political views should join social media platforms like Twitter/X where extreme views are tolerated, even encouraged.

I don't want to be part of a platform that doesn't moderate and exclude political opinions, regardless of whether they are extreme right or left. I do have my own political view but expressing those alongside conversations about carburettors, cams and cooling systems seems at odds as to why I joined in the first place.

 

The forum won't exist much longer if you continue to allow members to share their extreme political views, most of which can be debunked with some critical thinking and facts.

which post is this about?   I haven't seen anything recently.  certainly nothing 'extreme' (matter of opinion?)

 

except one american thing that turned into trump bash and then got immediately deleted 

 

they're pretty good here at deleting stuff, you should report it instead of leaving

I'd be interested in examples you have come across on the forum.

 

You can anonymise the example(s) so there is no finger pointing.

 

I worked for 45 years with people whose politics I didn't agree with.

 

It seems a shame you are leaving a valuable resource because of someone else's opinion.

With my tongue firmly in my cheek if you have strong feelings about politics or any other subject, maybe it might be a good idea to read the rules before you join anything!

The forum is run entirely by volunteers. We can't check every post before it's uploaded, nor do I think our members would want us to. Apart from delaying every post, making  conversational, real time, exchanges impossible; moderators would inevitably end up filtering content according to their own politics, even with the best of intentions.

 

I haven't personally seen any overtly political posts. I do sometimes see members respond to valid, Mini related, topics  from their own perspective of wider issues, but that happens everywhere there are people conversing with one another.

 

You can use the report button, at the bottom of every uploaded post, if you think the post oversteps the mark and message a member of staff if it doesn't get addressed.

Maybe this thread, hardly extreme but it's the only recent one that has any political mentions. Maybe Pete can clarify?

The post in question has been removed because it was largely irrelevant to the topic. Peter doesn't have to justify his opinions, nor does anyone else, but they ought to be relevant to the topic they are responding to.

We as a rule do not delete membership / profiles as this in the past has led to issues where a particular person has issues with other members and that inturn has led to factous comments / threats etc. This could because of items bought, wrong information leading to legal problems and so forth.

 

Now for a political post to cause issues or concern then as mentioned by Ethel, if you do not like what you read then please use the Report function and a team member will assess as required and intervene.

It's an odd request, though we have had a few of these over the years.

 

Making a post like this to me suggests that the OP wishes to make a statement to the members at large, any other person would just log off and not come back.

The general membership here is mature and sensible enough to know what's appropriate and what's not 99.99% of the time and I think we'd rather rely on their good judgement than reading carefully over each and every post, then as a committee discuss if it's applicable and appropriate.

Some judgement is also needed as to the intent of some phrasing of words and if in a broader sense, they can be construed as being offensive. I am of no doubt that if someone wanted to, they could find offence at just about anything posted here, one example is we generally use the English language in our posts, some might want it in Australian or Profain, so let's use common sense here rather than have to regulate every word.

I put a similar request to the admin of the Morris Minors owners club message board. Some very knowledgeable and nice folk on there but a few that are just plain ignorant.The tipping point for me was when a new poster requested advice for some minor modifications he was planning, the 'keyboard warrior usual suspects' then berated him for even considering any mods and in true schoolyard fashion made fun of him - not what you would expect from so called grown men. It was not an isolated incident and I was sick of the attitude of this minority which just spoiled it for me so I put in the request. I got an answer asking for details of said members and posts but I just signed out and have never gone back and my blood pressure has returned to normal.

Unfortunately all forums suffer from keyboard warriors, those who are holier than thou and so on and so forth.

 

My personal view on things like politics and religion (the bane of many folks) is leave it off a forum like this. Leave it for the likes of FB and so on. 

 

As for so called technical experts, those who think a car should be left standard, those who think 20" rims look the nuts (sarcasm here) on a small car or whatever, we are allowed to make our own choices, now whether they appeal to the masses or irritate the anally retarded, this forum caters for everyone with regards to what can be done to our little cars.

 

So bascially if you dont like something you see, move on. If you find it offensive for whatever reason or it breaks the forums rules then please report it. It really is that simple.

 

There is enough chaos and carnage going on in the world without bringing it on here and making things contentious.

This forum is without a doubt the most grown up and sensible place on the internet I have ever encountered. I can see how something offensive being posted would stick out like a sore thumb by contrast. I'd be pretty devastated if the Mini Forum became like all the rest of the c##p out there, so I can understand why Peter was upset. Hopefully he's happy with how it's been dealt with and he stays to make use of large amount of freely given advice on here. My mini journey would have been a lot less enjoyable if I was using only Facebook as an information source.
