Should the engine number be on an aluminium plate riveted on,  The one I'm looking at the number is etched  into the block face,  what does the code DJ92 mean?

Is there a good VIN number listing for build date and spec, I know about the Heritage certificate, but are the vins listed anywhere else please?

Later engines had it engraved.

probably a builders code, mine had msr@@@ which was from when it was rebuilt at MED engineering in the 1980's and they still have details on file
