I am fitting an MPI engine into a pre-injection body (maybe 1970??) and need assistance routing the rear wiring harness that goes to the fuel tank.  I saw the pictures in this SPI thread:

However, I cannot figure out where the harness passes through the rear seat panel.  

 

Does anyone have clear pictures of the routing into the boot?

between seat back panel and rear quater panel at the top of the wheel arch, there is originally a foam strip here and the loom goes through there, use the foam strip to prevent the loom rubbing on the seat back

 Thanks for the response, coopertaz.  I have a pre-injection body shell and I don't seem to recall seeing a space or any foam in that area, but I'll give it another look this evening.  

 

Was this passage way unique to the SPI/MPI?  Or does it exist on the pre-injection bodies as well?  

 

If anyone has pictures, it would be extremely helpful.

No, all Minis have a sizeable gap as standard around much of the seat back & parcel shelf. Try & google up some bare shell piccies & you'll see.

 

They "fit where they touch" - or where the spot welds can be hidden. Like under the screen seals.

Thank you Ethel.  I do have the gap you pointed out.  However, it is too narrow for 3 connectors on the harness.  If I de-pin them, I should have no problem getting everything through.  Alternatively, I could cut away about 5-6 mm of the seat back panel, but de-pinning would be a cleaner method.

Thank you for the picture, pete.  Your interior panel arrangement looks a bit different than mine.  Interestingly, on your car the seat back panel touches the body shell except at the portion where the harness passes through.  My car resembles the one in the linked picture from Ethel in post #4 above.  My car has a longer gap that begins at the inner fender arch and extends upward.  It's probably about 10 to 12 inches in length, but unfortunately a bit too narrow to accommodate 3 of the connectors.

 

When I bought the car, it came to me as a body shell and a bunch of boxes with various parts.  It's a  bit of a jigsaw puzzle.  I think the body is from 1970 or thereabouts and I have no idea it it underwent any modifications during its lifetime.  Perhaps this accounts for the variations in body panel arrangements.

I'd be sorely tempted to get a hole saw out. You could have a go at bending the seat edge, but it'd be easy to dink the side panel.
