My son's 1989 Mini Sky was sat with some petrol in it since 2007 which has turned a horrible brown colour. Apart from using petrol is there any other fluid I can use as a cleaning agent or would petrol be sufficient?

Replace all the rubber components first, then flush with fresh E5 fuel. Fit a fuel filter too

I'd be minded to take the tank out and give that a good clean too.
