Hello all!

I am having a issue with my SPI mini that I can not wrap my head around.  When the accelerator is pressed the engine revs to about 2500 rpm and shuts off the fuel supply.  When I look at the fuel injector i can visibly see the injector shut of and stop spraying fuel. When the rpms drop it runs great and idles fine. It may be important to note when I press the gas the car does back fire out of the carb as the fuel shuts off.

I am trying to figure out what sensor would cause the ECU to turn off the fuel?

What I have tried - I bypassed the roll over switch

I replaced the fuel pump

I checked the Vacuum lines

Can anyone offer any advise on what to check next??

Thanks in advance!

First thing I would do is a compression test to make sure the head gasket is not going between cylinders 2 and 3.

Check the condition of the crankshaft sensor.

As a quick test, check the vacuum reading that the ECU reports. The vacuum signal is the main control for fuelling. If the internal MAP sensor isn't reading correctly, you will have lots of fuel issues.

If that is ok, I would test the crankshaft sensor.
