Looking to make a boot lid liner, what material have others used that is both light and durable?
I tried mdf a while back but despite being fairly thin it made the boot lid feel heavy.

I'd probably use marine ply as it's damp resistant obviously, apparently that goes down to about 4mm at minimum

or maybe fibreboard, but coated with varnish or something to protect it?

I've gone off MDF lately, it makes horrible dust you don't want to breathe in, and goes all soggy and swells up when wet, also as you said it's quite heavy.  good for speaker boxes though

The original BMC bootlid liners were made of black fibreboard with a textured pattern if I remember correctly. Minispares list this similar one.

BOOT LID LINER AND SCREW SET - 14A9838

"This liner was found on many deluxe Minis. The black fiberboard is held on by chrome screws and upholstery washers."
