Aftermarket Brake Servo On A Mk 1

Dear Forum - I have an aftermarket (Powertune) servo I would like to put on my 1962 Traveller (with a slightly tuned 998 engine and S disk brakes on the front), just to make braking a little better. I am arranging to have it fitted but wondered if anyone could post a picture of how they are mounted in Coopers so I can check its orientation? Also, are Powertune servos thought to be ok? I bought it quite a while ago from Minispares but notice they no longer sell them. Very grateful for any advice.

I don't have a file photo of one fitted in a round nose Mini, but I do have one of how there were fitted to our Clubman GTs, the Cooper S was in the same location and used the same pipework.

Regardless of your final chosen location, it is most important that it's fitted tilted 'back' a little with the outlet about 20 - 25 mm higher than the inlet. This is so when it's bled, you'll be able to get the air out of it.

 

I don't know that particular servo you have, but most (all ?) I've noticed that there's no service kits or spare parts available for them, so once they start acting up, usually it's a throw away.

That's really helpful, many thanks, and for the tip about about tilting - bleeding these single line systems is nightmare enough without added problems! Many thanks again...
