Hi all

My Mini does not seem to have bits in the places other Minis of my age do 

 

As have been going through my new Classic mini i start to notice stuff that is not quite working as it should, like the vents on the screen do not work even though i move the slider to screen and the fan works no or very little  air goes to the screen and seem to poor out of the side holes in. to the cabin, I can see the flap move but a lot of air blows past and i can feel some edging on the flap.

 

My screen washer fluid bottle is in the boot. and my cooling radiator does not have a thermostat on the bottom but the auxiliary fan has all the wire connected and i tested it with 12v supply and it works. so how does it trigger and when will it trigger

 

Any help would be greatly  appreciated

First pull the air vent hoses off at the heater end and see if you can feel a reasonable force of air leaving the heater from the two outlets when you move the slider to screen with the booster fan on?

The two plastic air hoses from the heater to the screen vents are also often a loose push fit on the heater and behind the dash where they push onto the plastic vent outlets below the windscreen/top dash rail, causing air to leak away before it reaches up to the screen. If so taping the joints to seal them better can help. 

 

Do you have the correct/original radiator fitted with electric fan sensor as shown in links below?

Hi thank you for your reply. Looking at my setup their is nothing at the bottom of the radiator clip or screw in sensor and no wire i can see. I can see some hoses going in to the wheel arch and their is a bottle of sorts in the wing and the wing does get quite hot  when the car is taking for a drive.

The hoses you can see infront of the wiper motor are for  evaporative loss (emissions) system. The radiator expansion tank will connect at the radiator filler neck.

 

If there's anything controlling the fan it should be doing it via the nearest, yellow, relay up on the bulkhead

As said the plastic 'bottle' in the wing under the wheel arch is the radiator expansion tank, which will be connected by a rubber hose to the radiator filler neck.

 

If there is no sensor screwed/clipped into the bottom of the rad with wiring to activate the electric fan, then a previous owner may have fitted an earlier type of radiator without the sensor for some reason.

If so, assuming the original factory sensor wiring is still coiled up somewhere nearby, the fan will not function until a suitable later type rad is fitted complete with sensor re-connected. Alternatively you could add new wiring and a relay to a switch inside the car and just manually switch the fan on if you see the temperature on the gauge climbing to hot in traffic jams, etc on a hot day, which is what I have done on my earlier Mini which was not originally fitted with an auxiliary electric fan.

Run the engine up to temperature and see if it turns on would be my take.Steve..

Hi thanks for your replys i will have a look tommorrow and see if i can find any wires or test back from the relay see if i can trigger it from their on pin 85 as per the digram
