Hi, has anyone ever painted the gearbox & clutch housing & wok silver?
What paint should I use & should it be heated?
TIA

I painted mine a BMW silver. The engine has only run for 30 seconds though, although the paint was done 12 years ago and still looks ok.

I've gotta say, I'm not keen to paint them. Getting the paint to stick medium / long term is a bit of a mission and when it comes off, it looks worse that a dirty unpainted box. Ideally, though I think impractical, powder coating would go exceptionally well, however masking up would be a mission.Just be aware, though, powder coating if done right on alloy is quite difficult to remove.

Soda blasting might prove a better idea.

You see a few painted cases at shows at they look tatty after a while even when painted silver.

I had mine vapour blasted and then used a clear lacquer specifically for aluminium (can’t remember the brand, will update this post next time I’m in the garage). Without the lacquer you get oxidisation quite quickly. You can get away with coating with ACF50 or that likes, but it doesn’t last long.

Unless you blast and gas it first, you may end up with blistering. I had mine soda blasted, which also peens it. The finish is lovely.
