Hi everyone,

I'm interested in what owners do to keep their classic Minis reliable, particularly when they're driven regularly rather than just taken out for shows or occasional weekend runs.

Aside from the usual servicing, are there particular areas you think are worth checking more often, such as cooling, electrical connections, rubber components or suspension?

I'd be interested to hear which preventative maintenance checks have made the biggest difference to long-term reliability and helped avoid unexpected problems.

Ignition is the weakest link. A good electronic setup helps. Also keep the wiring clean & in good condition, original spec crimps, with boots & a dab of electrolytic grease.

Fit an electric cooling fan under the front wing like the later 1990's onwards Minis, it takes the stress out of watching the temperature gauge climb towards hot/red when stuck in a slow moving traffic jam, especially on a hot summers day. Also means the driver and passengers don't have to roast when you switch on the interior heater to act as an emergency auxiliary cooling radiator....
