Hey, I fitted a body kit (a few years ago mind!) it was an RGA kit with spoiler over the rear window...hey, I know, but it was 1994!
The trick is to take your time and use plenty of screws/rivets/bondo. I filled my kit with expandable foam for rigidity - just be careful where you put it so it doesn't create a water trap (you know how minis are)

I have a zeemax kit on my clubman estate which still needed alot of work to fit no car is the same.

I HAVE COME TO MY SENCES im selling the kit as i have had a look what it may look like and its no were near the right sizing it just wont work, or line up. the idea now is for sportspacks and deceam rear valence and carbon front bumper and carbon mirrors to match how does that sound?

All kits take some fettling to fit as all minis are slightly different shapes due to panel replacement etc etc...
For fitting you need some good filler that can flex, some rivets, some bonder (fibreglass bonder is great) or some really strong glue.
then it's just a case of slowly offerning it up to the car, filing bits off, smoothing parts up and filling gaps etc....

new plan sounds good to me
all body kits will new some sort of trimming or filling of gaps, and alot of patience
