Which wire do I need to take off, the smaller one or the bigger one?take the wire off the tank and connect it to earth
if the gauge now reads full its your sender in the tank
And if I try this and still nothing happens what else could it be?

I think if you connect the two wires tigether then it will reaqd full if the gauge and wiring is ok.
Yep thats correct. I had the same problem and a new sender sorted it.

Also how do you fit the sender to the tank and take the other one out?

just make sure the tank is as near empty as possible to avoid leaks!! or worse - filling your whole boot with petrol!!

If you order the new sender from Mini Spares, spend the little bit extra necessary to get a new rubber gasket at the same time.

You get a 5% discount for telling them you're a TMF member?
Yep, pm Simon@minispare on here and ask him. He'll ask for a few details then you get the discount online. Only get the discont shown on the order sent to your e-mail inbox.
edit
^^ above for online order, if on the phone just mention it.

I usually email my orders to Stevie Toner and I'll mention it to her next time.
