Ok, 1st get a decent sized pic of a car, zoom in so you can see the pixels of the edge of the bodywork, with the lasso tool go round and click the edge of the bodywork all the way round. You will see what happens when you have a play. When you get back to where you started a little circle will appear, click and your car will have what's called marching ants round where you clicked. goto edit/copy and this will copy everything inside the marching ants line. Go to the layers pallet and click on the small icon that looks like a folder (next to the bin) This will create a new layer. Click on that new layer (called layer1) to highlight it and then file/paste. You have now got a copy of just the bodywork on a new layer. Using the lasso tool again go round the bit's you don't want to colour like the lights, windscreen etc and when you have the marching ants hit delete to get rid of them. All you should be left with is a copy of the bodywork.

If the body is a dark colour then you will need to lighten it up using Image/Adjustments/ brightness and contrast. Lighten the colour then you can play around with Image/Adjustments/Hugh/saturation and use the sliders to get the colour you want. You can also play with Image/Adjustments/ Colour Balance as well as brightness and contrast to get it just right.

There are loads of photoshop tutorials on the web. Well worth having a play as you learn allot by doing them.

If you get stuck PM me

Have phun
