my mini is currently in the body shop being resprayed surf blue. this is one of the original colours and isn't pearlescent/metallic, etc.
when i get it back i want to be prepared with all the right products. i aim to spend around 40-50 pounds and want a complete kit. so what would everyone recommend as a general starter kit? for example, sponge, shampoo, polish/wax/clay, mitt, wheels, etc.
also, i've heard that you shouldn't even attempt to clean a car that has had a fresh coat of paint for about 6 weeks, is this true? thanks in advance

for polishing e.t.c. I recommend that you use any of the auto gleam brand they are fantastic, expensive but worth wile, i would also invest in some G3 but this must be used with care as it takes micro-layers of paint off and if not used right will remove your paint, i dont recomend using a mop with G3

You don't need to wait as that long as that before you wash your car
after a respray, in the bodyshop you would leave it for aleast
24hrs before washing it and giving back to the customer.
If you wash it too soon you may just get some flatting marks come
back from where it's been flatted and polished, but these would
just need a bit more polishing.

i'd leave it a few weeks before polishing but washing should be ok. personally i'd use Autoglym or Meguier's products. they cost a little bit more than the norm but worth the expense, get yourself a good quality lambswool mitt and i've used the autoglym artificial chamois without any probs at all! at the end of the day it's all down to personal preference.

I work as a mobile crash repairer, for a company called AutoRestore and today i've repaired and painted a 1/4 panel on a 5 series BMW. After about an hour of having the infra red lamps on it, i'm flatting it back with 2000 for polishing. After polishing you can wipe over with degreaser to bring back any flatting marks, and then give it a final polish.
(Hence i'm home already)
If you've got plenty of time on your hands then you can by all means take your time, but with fast accelerants you would be surprised how soon you can flat and polish these days.
Me painting my Minus, which i was polishing the week after, as i had to let it air dry.
