just a idea really. could you put external hinges on without removing the internal ones. so basically they wont do anything just look good. or will they make the door open different??

They basically will make the door not open at all lol. You'll have two pivotting points if you install both. However, if you just want it for looks, then I can think of a way that it may work: Close doors, mark positions of external hinges, mount them as you would normally. Then take them off, and remove the pin holding the two halves of the external hinges together. You may also need to file down the inside part a little bit (of the half that slots into the other). Then simply fit these halves back together. Since they are no longer connected by a pin, they should allow the door to open with the existing internal hinge geometry.
Note that this is just something I thought of now so it's in no way a guaranteed method. You'll have to look at the different geometries in person.

nope just sticking them on wont work, and without the pin the hinge will split into it's two halves and look rubbish when open with a massive gap.

Talk to Dogmatix. he is doing the conversion properly, which involved new A-panels etc.

Do a search and lot will be revialed! I asked this question a few months ago...
But you need to remove you hinges, that you have now, and change your A panels... quite a bit of work involed to be honest...

But if you REALLY want the look, then go for it!!

for example;

If you do decided to do it, its hella worth it...

I'm pretty sure some Japanese mini fanatics produced some stick on hinges...but I've never seen these anywhere so it's probably the usual case that we cannot easily get these parts :w00t:

got to go with guessworks with that.
were the fillets are to strenghten were the hinges bolt onto need to have some weld on as this is were the strenght needs to be to support the hinges.
i know its rude to say but that welding is terrible, i can see from the pictures that is has not taken to the flitch panel.

i think its great that people try to repair there own cars but there is a fine line in making the car dangerous to yourselves and other road users, welding in new panels (especially on minis because) needs to be done correctly and mig welders makes it easy for the home users to do but in 95% of welding done by people with out training the welds are no good.

how many cars do we see on ebay were they have bought a mini with the intentions of rebuilding them but then make the excuse that they are now selling it because they have run out of time etc and are reselling it, they have cut out the floor and sills and the car is now bent out of shape and will end up going for scrap.

if you are going to have a go at welding up your mini please dont just go and buy a mig welder and spend a couple of hours welding old metal, go on a welding course first and learn how to weld.

sorry about this dogmatixs but that is a really bad job.
