Just been down to my local jumble sale auto factors and bought myself a 2 stroke scooter piston to make into a gear knob.

Just cleaned it down and now im having a think of how to fix the buggar onto the gear stick.

Im thinking about scaving a spare standard gear knob off a mate then striping the thread outa it aligning it in the piston the filling it with araldite << glue good strong stuff.

or finding myself some 15/16 nuts and doing the same.

Any other ideas from anyone else and ill take them into mind, theres some pics to help you out.

looks a bit big for a gear knob to me, but what I could do is get some resin and then fill it up, maybe with a thread already located...

Guessworks, the size of the piston is spot on the size of the original gear knob, and i guessed when i bought it, so yey for me.

I've already asked what thread size the gear stick shaft is, and i got 15/16 UNC, but aint that near an inch??

If im drilling the inside of this piston out what size drill bit do i need to start the hole and what sized tap do i need. I haven't got a set of taps so i need to know before hand so i can borrow one.

why not take your gear knob to the guy that you are lending the tap from

Because when i say borrow from a mate I mean my dad borrows one from work and they aint too kind to you if you waltz in there if you dont work there, lol

Got it wrong, its not 15/16 its 5/16.

But now im torn between 5/16 BSW and 5/16 UNC. Which one is it? Because the threads are going to be different, ie: depth, etc...
