lots of noise is being made from my mini when there are revvs on, its a loud squealing noise, when there are no revvs or low revvs there is lottle or no noise. i think its the fan belt, as i have asked my college tutor what he thought it might be. he said its pretty easy to sort out myself. any ideas anyone? is it relativly easy for a n00b to replace the fanbelt?
Thanks
Jon

aye. tis indeed easy to change.
might need to wip the front grille off. BUT! just try tighting the belt 1st. Slacken the two top bolts on the alternalter and then the 3rd bolt on the bottom of the alternatoer (....kack, can't rember is its the front bolt or back bolt. One hold the plate to the engine the other holds the alternator in place) slack that then (this is what I do) use a wooden hammer handle and use it to wedge behind the alternatore (could use a screwdriver or just hold it out) pulle the alternator out then tighten the bolts a bit. check the slack of the belt, should deflect around 1/4 inch on the top part (but other people like diffrent slackness's do a search) when you get the belt tightness's right bolt everything thing up and see how she sounds.
It will either work fine or the belt will snap in a short while from either being screwed or too tight.
Prob be a good idea to replace it anyway if your unsure of its condition.

It's replacing that's the tricky bit.
I never did figure out how to do that with the rad and fan still in place.

Some rads have a notch that enables you to do this, if not it's just a case of undoing the top bracket - gives you just enough room to "weave" the belts through the fan, if you get me.
