right i am intent on changing my old relic switches for something more modern, so i went for the savage dooberies. i was given a diagram to help me wire it in, but with as i'm not 100% on them i was wonder whether someone could help. basically can anyone tell me what does n/c n/o stand for? and what they should connect to? by the way this switch is being used for the hazard one, pic below shows the diagram i got.

N/C is normally closed
N/O is normally open
Common is just that common.

The anoode (positive) and catchode (negative) are for the warning light on the switch.

Essintially you wire the switch up so that your input goes on the "common" and the output goes on the N/C or N/O. if the function is normally off, and then on when you hit the switch, you should connect it to the N/O and vice versa.

Clear as mud now?

used that magical hard to find search button, and just need one more hand, i've found out what each pin on the old switch does, 2 top ones are the switch itself, then the four middle ones are the lights, with one for the relay, and the two outer blade connections being the illuminations. now do i use one side for the switch, the use the other for the bulbs (mounting the 3 connections into one, and using the common for the relay)? is that ok or do i need another bender blast?

(refering to sides as i have 2 n/c, 2 n/o and 2 common connections)

normally closed means common and nc will be connected in the switches normal position!! when you flick the switch the common will disconect from the nc terminal and join the normally open terminal!!

what are you trying to wire into it!!

i am wiring the hazard switch. i've got the switching bit sorted, but on the old switch it has 4 more wires 3 which go to the indicators and 1 that goes to the relay. i just need to know whether the principle is the same, wirng the 3 indicators to n/c and the relay to common?

oh god hazard wiring!! err!! the square hazard switch seperated the left and right indicator wires when the switch is not pressed if they arent seperated you get a back feed thru the wires and you indicators will be all flashing at the same time whatever way you put the switch!!

you can stop this with diodes!!!!!

i dont believe you can do this with a simple 2 position switch!! needs to be a double pole double throw item to simplify the wiring!!
