Right as my road tax is due for renewal at the end of the month I had the usual reminder/form posted through the letterbox this morning.

Only as the mini is off the road in bits (had planed on it being back on the road by now) I don’t see much point in paying out for road tax when the car won’t actually be on the road for another few months.

So was thinking on declaring it sorn for a few months, only there’s plenty, although even then it contradicts itself on how to register a car for sorn, BUT nothing on what you have to go through to reverse it.

Other wise to save all the fuss I might just stump up and pay it even though the mini won’t be used for a good few months.

So has anyone actually declared a car as sorn and already gone through the processes who is willing to explain?

Ive declared all the car's ive owned sorn for a few months since ive got them.

All you have to do is go to the DVLA office with a copy of the V5 your insurance for the car and the details of the car eg VIN etc. Its really easy to do although can take a while depending on how busy the DVLA are (i mean in the office) you get the tax on the day tho.

Only just decleared mine SORN..
I did it online, you may need the ref number off the log book, as the code wasn't on my tax form... the DVLA site tells you all! :gimme:

I too was hoping the mini would of been on the road before now, but I decided if I am going to do it, do it properly ;)
No need to get another form, the PO has the normal forms to get it re-taxed.
But remember, you'll need a valid MOT, and valid Insurance tickets with you

Ah ok cheers,

Well I was hoping on having it done and driveable buy now but all the little problems add up and might as well do it properly the first time rather than having o do it again in a few months.

So I should be fine as the insurance runs out in April and the mot doesn’t run out till the end of August. Although I really do hope it’s done and finished buy the end of February, first week of March by the latest.

This is indeed confusing

Not declarin SORN but re taxing it.

A vehicle thats on SORN should not be driven on the road. You cannot tax the vehicle without a valid MOT. What to do?

It left open to interpretation. Much like the MOT itself.

Take the chance of getting caught by those VOSSA vehicle check cameras? I can envisage getting pulled by the police, them not believing you are on your way to the test station, take half an hour checking out your car and making you miss your MOT apointment. LOL, unlikely but knowing some of the police round here it could happen. There has to be an explanation, but i cant find it.

I know what I would do, but what would you do?

Do it all online. I've SORNd two mini's tonight alone! (And they weren't even mine! :gimme: o/j).

I'm pretty sure you can then TAX it online too, I'm sure I've taxed it online without an MOT, but I can't be certain about that.

If you're not going to tax it then sorn it... as they are starting to have a nasty habbit of fining you when you do come to tax it and there's a gap between the last tax disc running out...

You can drive a vehicle to a MOT station if;

The MOT is prebooked with a date/time/Registration
You have insurance
The test centre is within x amount of miles of where the car is kept.

Hope this helps!

Just sorn'd my mini this morning. Need to tax the ibiza on tuesday when i get paid.
