As title says......I have recently bought a mini that has hi-los fitted. It has been dropped really low, so low that I can't actually get the zeemax front bumper on as it hits the ground!!!!

Can anone tell me how to raise the suspension slightly. I can see the two nuts on the hi los but wasn't sure which was the adjustment and whioch was a locking nut. Also which way do I turn them??

Any help gratefully received.....

I would imagine the top nut would be the locking one and you would turn it from right to left (clockwise) to raise it, although ive never used hi lows before, just a guess

what he said is right, bottom nut adjusts and top nut is for locking but dont you see that raising it will make her handle worse!! and the zeemax kit will take numbers off your acceleration and top speed due to weight and drag!! Why WHYWHYWHYWHY!! each to they're own i guess!!

Raising the ride height will make little difference to the handling. You will need to turn the top nut anti-clockwise to undo it, and then turn the bottom one anti clockwise to raise the ride height. The adjustment ration is 3:1 at the front so a change of 10mm on the hi-lo will raise the car 30mm (in theory) one other thing, the locknut should only be finger tight.

Anticlockwise or clockwise......two posts contradict!!

As I'm looking at them from the side is it left to right or right to left??

Sorry if this is a silly question but here goes anyway.......

If I'm turning the nut and the alloy trumpet part is moving too am I actually doing anything or is the whole thing just spinning? I haven't seen hi-los off the car and don;t really know how they work or what I am turning.

Apologies if it is the stupidest question ever.....

Also, how would I go about unscrewing the alloy trumpet as an alternative to turning the bolt? Where from and how?

The Trumpet part of the hi lo holds the rubber spring in the subframe and should not move when you make adjustments, although if you wind them down low enough this may be enough to cause this to happen, this may be because your car is that low. If its this low its probably riding on the bump stops, should not do that!

When you jack the car up the cone seperates from the trumpet and stops you from being able to adjust the hi lo. As you face the hi lo you can see the metal trumpet at the top the lock nut below that, the threaded part, and then the adjusting nut below that. The lock nut needs to be undone, (lefty loosy) but if they are wound down so low that the thread is not visable between the lock nut and the adjusting nut then it could be confusing as to which one to turn.

If no thread is visable between the lock nut and the adjusting nut then turning the lock nut anticlockwise will just lock it to the adjusting nut.

Try turning the adjusting nut instead of the lock nut. But you need to stop the trumpet from turning. Some have a hole in which you could put a screwdriver in to hold it still while you try turning the nuts.

But the if the trumpet is turning turning the nuts will make no difference so thats the problem.

I hope that wasnt too confusing. Post a pic if you still have a problem. Its easier to see that way. And dont feel stupid for asking questions, if you still dont understand its our fault for not explaining properly!

Blah blah blah,

Turn the lock-nut anti clockwise to loosen it off, then turn the BIG nut anit clockwise to raise the height, or clockwise to lower it. Then tighten the lock-nut back up clockwise.

Maybe this will help;
