i have finally finished fitting my new engine (or so i thought) today but when we tried to start it there is no oil pressure. so far as im aware it has all gone back together correctly with all the appropriate seals and gaskets in the correct places but the oil pressure will just not register.
have filled it with the correct amount of oil, fitted the oil pressure gauge, filled the filter with oil and so far as im aware med filled the oil pump with oil when they fitted it. any ideas as to why it wont register?
if i had any hair, id be pulling it out!

have you tried turning it over without the coil attached so it turns over but doesn't start? it can take a fair while sometimes

the guage works fine and so far as im aware everything is connected correctly. hence im at a loss to work out why it isnt registering. think that the oil pump might need priming.

Had a similar prob after a gearbox swap. So took out the oil pressure relief valve and poured about a litre mix of gearbox oil and 20/50 down there, then turned the engine over backwards by hand for a while (well, rolled it backwards in 4th, forward in neutral) then tried again. Pressure came up ok after that.

Why did you put some gearbox oil down there?

If I'm going to do something to solve a problem, I'm wanting the problem solved. Granted, plain oil may have solved the issue, but there's no harm in making assurance double sure as Shakespeare would say.

i would do as vasi says but use just engine oil. it wil mean you have to take off your oil pipe from the block to the filter tho. just back fill the system a little. i hope you are spinning the engine up with the plugs out and the coil off?

Have you put the sleave from the oil pressure reliefe valve back in? I also had this problem and was quite worries but after about 2 mins of turning over with no plugs in it eventually came through. How ling have you been turning it over for?
