Is it a Genuine KAD one?

If it isnt the general consensus is throw it in the bin and don't bother.

on a more helpful note: you might need to file the ball down a bit to get it to work

Yep, The Ball On Non-Genuine Ones Are A Bit#h To Get In.
by the way: They Are Actually Short Shifts

There're not a proper quickshift...

They only shorten the shift between the gears,

Nothing is a proper 'quickshift' other than moving your arm faster !!! They are all just short shifts and reduce the travel of the gearstick !

thats a sequential shift and that is just a little more involved to try and fit and it costs LOTS AND LOTS.

AC Dodd Slick shift conversion is the way to go,apparently. nopt used one but heard nothing but good about it.

only downside is it needs to be done during a gearbox rebuild.

i got a kad quickshift!! the lever leans more towards the back of the car and slightly towards the driver making it easier to reach and you dont have to move it as far!! its an advantage to me when im strapped into my bucket seat because i have relatively short arms and cant reach a std gear lever or make the full gear throw!!
