My wife's 16k mile 1.3SPi sounds like it's quite tappety when it's cold. When it gets up to normal working temp it's fine. Is this normal, or likely to be rockers that need adjusting...or something more sinister?

The valve clearances need to be set at 12 thou. This should be done when the engine is cold, if the engine is in good condition then this should help, if not solve the problem.

Mine does this, but the rockers on my car are worn meaning correct valve clearance is difficult to set. Mini's are quite tappity sounding anyway and its better that the gap is set too wide than too close.

Oil level's OK, but the filter hasn't been done for a while. Will do the oil and filter and see if there's any improvement. If not, will check the gaps.

Cheers :-
