has ur mini ever made u want to cry??

the one time of year i need my mini most, the one time of year i cant afford for it to go wrong, and guess what it did!

past 10 or so miles excessive whinning in all gears, whinning gets louder the higher the revs, changed down a gear as approaching a roundabout and when i brought the clutch up i got a lot of vibrations throught the clutch pedal and bad noises, and it didnt pick up, jus carried on as tho clutch still down.

stopped, put clutch down, brought clutch up, nothing, engine still runs in gear with the clutch up but makes bad noise :w00t:

any help greatly appretiated

Does it whine when coasting in neutral, foot off the clutch?

If not then suspect clutch. Sounds like the plate has worn through.

PS I forgot to break gently

Merry Christmas! Ask Santa for a clutch plate! Ho ho ho.

It could be your dif , jack up one side of the mini (front) in gear and try to turn the other wheel , if it turns without turning the gearbox over its the dif .if the gearbox can be heard turning its the clutch , put mini into neutral , turn wheel if it grinds then deffo dif

it whinnes in neutral coasting with clutch up yes,

if i'm thinking properly, then that rules out the clutch.
it could also be drop gears, if the noise relates to engine revs. if so when you change up it would drop in tone, as the engine does. if its relates to road speed, then it could be what woody said

theres no nice way to put this. sounds like either a dead gearbox, dead set of drop gears or they're corresponding casing or a dead diff thats broken the gearbox or drop gears or both!!

Does it stop whining when you press the clutch ?

Could be the clutch release bearing....if this is badly adjusted so its running against the clutch constantly then will wear out, whine and judder.

yeah sounds likely

before it happened it would stop whining wen the clutch was down, and then whine at all times wen it was up

i think it must be this as i can still select gears and clutch still has pressure but when i bring th clutch up there are bad noises and vibrations

before it happened i also got a thud every now and then wen i changed gear and jus before it happened i got lots of vibrations wen i changed gear too

im sticking with my suggestion!! putting your foot on the clutch stops the noises, the release bearing will be under load and turning fast but the drop gears and gearbox will stop!! last time i heard those symptoms i spent 5 weeks rebuilding a spi mini with second hand parts because the guy had corkscrewed the 2 bottom drop gears thru the trasnfur casing!!! im suspoecting this is where your problem is!
