Hi all
Im thinking of getting carbon fibre doors/roof but am not sure what it would look like when painted over?
Im only looking to do it to save weight, not for it to look good but still want to keep the car the colour it is without it looking odd. Does the paint take well on carbon fibre?

absolutely. A good 600 sanding, primer, 800 wet sand, and paint away. Same as FG really.
A also round that if you have any imperfections in the surface, drizzle some resin in the scrapes/holes on the end of a fine brush or small stick, and then prep. filler/stopper just doesn't come up as nice.

If gel coat, then can get away with grey scotchie and then primer, then paint.
Depends on how fussy you are to how much work you put into it.
You can rub down the gel coat abit, i prefer 800 which takes longer but you can feel it with fingers as to how smooth and if you begin to touch the cloth. Dont go to far down, just enough to get it smoother.
Then some primer on their, again i prefer 800 colour sand, being careful not to go thru the primer.
Then paint (do as above)
You might find that the carbon will show in the paint, but dont worry, its just that the cloth is heavy compaired to the paint.
