Hi,

curently I'm running a 1380cc eng ( no idea wich cam...) with a twin HS2
setup. It had a tune up when I just had it, but still isn't going how I want
it to go. When you're just revving without driving, it runs great. Nice high revs,
a good throttle response,... But when I for example start at a traffic light,
I can just push the gas as much as I want; when it revs and I loose the clutch,
it just dies a bit :X . The revs come down and it slooooowly begins to pull
from 1000 till 2300 rpm and the after 2300 rpm it just begins to live like it should.
But when the car is even just moving at very slow speeds and you put the gas down,
it picks up nicely. I'm a bit concerned the everytime when I stop and want to really go
at a traffic light, that one day maybe my clutch might die on me ( I really must push
the engine over this dead point with my clutch if I want to acc more or less ).

Ideas anyone? Might an other carb setup do the trick (HIF 44)? Wrong cam, ... ?

Thnx m8s !!!

P.S.: how much should I be paying for a HIF44 in good cond and do I want a vizard one?

P.S.: how much should a set of used vented metro calipers put me back
and do fit straight on? Will I need adaptor plates? I now how a std
disc setup with servo.

Cheers and a merry one mates !!!

it could just be the typ eof cam that you have. what have you got?

1380 with twin hs2's should be a real torque monster

twin hs2's are a bit small for a 1380 in my opinion.

try getting a pair of hs4's

as for your problem it sounds like you will need to get them tuned propperlly . a session on a rolling road to get the right needles in then will do the trick.

as boo and cowboy have said

hs2's are a bit small for a 1380 and you might have a very racey cam with now power below 3000 rpm

first try a tune up on a rolling road at a garage that know mini's

Whilst i agree with the carbs being on the small side, it sounds like a high lift cam not kicking in till 2500rpm (sounds like the 286 which most people fit to a 1380)

A rolling road will sort it, and if you use a Mini Friendly RR then they will be able to not only tune up the car, but give you an idea on engine spec (Peter Baldwin is a MONSTER when it comes to RR Minis)

could be cam being lumpy at low revs, retarded timing does the same and so does a bad fuel mixture but even if the carbs are too small they definately will not limit power at low revs because of their size, only setup.

hs2's are not necessarily too small for a 1380. depends on the use of the engine and what the OP wants from it

Sounds to me like you need it tuned by someone who knows what they are actually doing. There are so many variables that could affect it like cam, ignition, fueling...
You idealy need to find out what cam you have, see if you have the right dizzy for the state of tune your engine is in, is the cam timed in correctly, what sort of valve train do you have, how high is the compression all these things need to be know really so that you can make sure they are correct and will all work together. Ditch the twin carbs as they are a pile of cr@p on any mini and go for a plain and simple HIF44, then take it to a GOOD tuners.
