Two question on this new years day for you.
1) Can I put a 120mph speedo in El Gordo (998, think the 120 is from a 1275 or an innocent...or whatever it's called mini) and it read correctly?
2) I have a smiths oil pressure gauge and a vac gauge I need to light up. Weres do I take the feed for the light to come on so its they turn on with the other dash light?
thanks people.

Yes, but get one soon, they're getting more rare now but they are out there. I **think** you should be able to swap them... but you might need a differnt cable or speedo drive....1) Can I put a 120mph speedo in El Gordo (998, think the 120 is from a 1275 or an innocent...or whatever it's called mini) and it read correctly?

I've seen them have lives taken from the back of the light switch... though i'm not 100%, i can't remember, as long as it's all earthed well... i'va also seen a live taken from the back of the speedo cluster for the back lights!
If i'd were you, i'd wait till someone more clever than me comes along

For the speedo if you check the four figure number printed on the front of the speedo you will be able to tell if it will read correctly

Cheers for the wiring tip. Have to get on that soon. But what number on the gauge. You mean the kmph ones? or the little numbers down around the edge of the gauge.

for the lights you can take another cable from the fusebox there is one fuse for lights green and red (as Udo said). and earth each gauge.
I converted from the single centre speedo to 3 clock centre and spliced the side gauges into the bulb on either side of the main clock soldered and heat shrinked them, seems to work ok so far.

I may be wrong, but Mini's from 1980ish onwards have the same speedo ratio, but the speedo drive is changed to suit the wheel size and gearing from the factory.
I thought you were talking about centre clocks untill I saw the picture, thats a 1275 GT tripple drivers side speedo isnt it?

Oh and as for the light feed, I was planning on taking mine from the multi plug that goes into the back of the clocks as it would be easer than having to drop the heater down etc, etc.
That is if anyone knows what colour wire the dash/clocks lights run on.

I know they come in either 1248 1280 or 1440 as I have all those and maybe even more
There will be a number on your current dial somewhere to compare
Cheers
