So, I'm about to change a coil (old one is some non-name bright blue one), I already have Aldon Ignitor fitted and I've had some problems with high revs earlier. Not that much anymore anyway. The big question is: when wanting a better spark at this case, should I go for Flame thrower or is Sports coil enough? by the way. engine is 1380cc A+ and its mainly used as weekend warrior.

I believe the ignitor is built to be best used with the flame thorwer anyway... so why not wang one on..

Firstly, you do not need any form of extra performance coil with electronic ignition. Electronic ignition systems get better sparks from standard coils and should only be used with what they are designed for as you can easily fry the module. Having said that Aldon say their module can be used with either the flame thrower or a Lucas Sports Coil so choose either but you won't really see much of a difference.

Changing from contact breaker points to electronic ignition can take the spark voltage from 26000v with points up to 35000v with electronic, but also adding a sports coil will only take it up to just short of 40000v so it's nowhere near as big an improvement as the electronic module itself is.

The ignitor module can be used with the ballasted supply in ballast ignition systems as it will function down to 6v but make sure the coil you use is compatible with the system you are using. There is no quality sports coil for ballasted ignition, so if you are using a ballasted system you should stick with a standard coil. Ballast is better by the way and gives much better starting. Bright blue one is a standard part by the way.

Thanks for the info Dan :w00t:

as I have read from the previous posts, ballast ignition system has pink wire (see pic) as I seem to have too. Damn coil doesn't have any writings on it, so I can't say anything about that but notice the 1 and 15 markings on top of the coil. ballast or non-ballast? :ghost:

SO if I have now understood correctly, I cant use Lucas Sports Coil in this case and I have to rely on my old coil then? Or does Flame Thrower operate with ballast ignition system?
