does anyone know if my min has a 5.5 or 7.5 gallon fuel tanks.
it only takes £18 to fill up. but im no good at converting litres to gallons.
if it is a 5.5 gallon tank, and i wanted to change to a 7.5 gallon, is it just a straigh swap over? apart from the strap, and taking the sender unit ut of the old one, into the new one?
thanks
JoeB

get a pic but i think it will be a 7.5
18 quid is about 20 litres. are you filling up when the gauge goes into the red? or when you run it dry and run out of petrol?

I've got a 7.5 and it costs about the same to fill up so I reckon you have a 7.5.

if the tank comes to the edge of the boot opening its 5.5
if it sticks out into the boot a bit its 7.5

£20 in a 7.5 gallon tank, if u check the level with the torch(very low) and fill it up til u can see petrol u can quite easily get £30 in.

Easy way to tell the difference: the strap for the 7.5 gallon tank runs around it, going diagonally accross the side. The smaller tank's strap runs over the top of the tank and straight down the back to the boot floor. Also the smaller tank has a two piece strap with the joining bolt holding the two parts together while the larger one has a single piece strap bolted at each end.
What age is your Mini? The vast majority have 7.5 gallon tanks.

Yeah, i would think that it has a 7.5, if it hasn't don't just swap for a bigger one....instead, add a right hand jobby.

What size will an Elf one be? Because they have different shaped tanks don't they?

Nope, Elf and Hornet carry the same 5.5 gallon tank as contemporary Minis. That's why there's so much boot space behind the tank, they could have designed a tank to fill the space completely but that would have cost more so they didn't bother.
